As prophesized by my calendar, “The Blood Letting” day is upon us. Hallmark, Tiffany’s, and Godiva, “The Trinity,” will rain on us with the fiery of a thousand platinum credit cards, and at the end there will be two flickering candles, an obscenely large bundle of roses that are already beginning to wilt, a bill for an overpriced dinner that was too small and dry, and bad champagne that will be the cause of your annoying hangover tomorrow. I hope the blow job and the drunk lay were worth it. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Who is Valentine and why is a day associated with lovers named for him? Apparently, he was a Christian who continued to perform marriages in defiance of the Emperor's decree that no marriage until after you served in the legions. He was arrested and feel in love with the jailor's daughter. He wrote love letters to her on ivy leaves (they're shaped like hearts) in his own blood and signed them, "From your Valentine."
Now all of this may or may not be true. Since he's the Patron Saint of Lovers, I wanted to see what Sancte Mater Ecclesia had to say on the matter. 14 Feb is the Memorial of St. Cyril & St. Methodius, co-patrons of Europe w/ St. Benedict. Well, I'm not European (not even by descent) so does this mean that this is not a day for lovers? It's just Tuesday? Well, my fiancee must take her European heritage seriously, because she wanted to celebrate. So I took her to diner at Arby's. According to Stan, "It's not fast food! It's is slow roasted." And then we watched "House, MD."
